The Problem
I would like kids to play more in their neighborhoods. A key to that is getting them to be more comfortable with the people and physical features in their neighborhoods. Also, it helps if there are people around who know them.
The Process
Teams of two or three kids would choose a giant monopoly game piece and a block. Then, they'd roll fuzzy dice and move their piece on their block on a huge game board on a driveway. The board is a mural map of our neighborhood with lots drawn out on the blocks. The teams move their piece, lot-by-lot, on their chosen block. Then, the lot they land on becomes their destination. They must go to that lot, ring the doorbell of the neighbor, take photos, and get other items. They also must invite the neighbor to come to our Huntopoly party on Friday. The team gets points for every item they get, including points for every resident (including pets!) that attends the party.
